Milford Sound

Milford Sound

Milford Sound, New Zealand– The Milford Sound in New Zealand is part of a fjord in the southwest of New Zealand’s south island. It is New Zealands most famous tourist destination. Rain forest clings to the cliff and whales, seals, penguins and dolphins are frequently seen in the waters. At first sailing ship captains such as James Cook, avoided entry to the Milford Sound because of its steep cliffs and narrow passageways that could harm the ships. A European sealer named John Grono, eventually discovered the Milford Sound in 1812 and named in Milford Haven in honor of his hometown in Wales.
