Socotra, Indian Ocean– Socotra lies 150 miles east of the horn of Africa. Many of its plant and wildlife are only found on the island. A third of its plant life is found nowhere else in the world. The island is approximately 80 miles long and 30 miles wide and is part of the Republic of Yemen. Over 700 species of plant life on Socotra are endemic and only Hawaii and the Galapagos Islands have more impressive numbers. Socotra has become an amazing feature of the world due to its isolation and archipelago islands.
